Losing weight can be a challenging journey, and many factors contribute to our success or struggles in achieving our weight loss goals. While diet and exercise play a significant role, there is another crucial factor that often goes overlooked: our emotions. Emotions have a profound impact on our behaviours, choices, and overall well-being, including our ability to lose weight.

The ability to lose weight (and to maintain weight) is deeply rooted within the nervous system safety set point. This set point is protecting you or benefiting you in some way, to stay overweight. So your nervous system holds onto that pattern. As a result, you will struggle to take action, unconsciously set yourself up for failure, and often experience a variety of other symptoms on top of your weight struggles.

The biggest issue with this? It doesn’t matter how much you optimise your diet, exercise, stress management or sleep, your nervous system has been trained to pull you off-track. 

So what can be done? We need to identify the pattern and clear it, which is where Emotion Release Technique is here to help. ERT allows me to quickly identify any stress, emotion or trigger that is keeping you stuck and release them – right there in the session! You walk away feeling lighter and more motivated to make lasting changes.

Addressing the most common underlying driver

Just like any other health presentation, excess body weight comes with multiple potential causes. But if we look at all of those causes, every single one is either caused or exacerbated by stress. That includes:

  • Thyroid issues
  • Insulin resistance
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Emotional eating
  • Poor food choices
  • Increased appetite/cravings

That’s why you need to consider the effects of stress, and process that stress effectively. That’s why I love using ERT.  You can start to clear layers of stress from the first appointment, which can greatly increase your chance of long-term success!

Supporting long-term maintenance

What about when you reach your ideal weight and feel fabulous? Unfortunately, the research shows that this doesn’t mean a happy ending, and you have probably experienced the problem yourself.

We know that most people will go on to regain the weight AND add on some extra kilos on top. And that’s not what I want for you!

The beliefs that interfere with weight maintenance are often completely different to those around losing weight. You might even believe you can lose weight – as you have done so previously. But you may have likely never kept the weight off, so your underlying story is around being unable to maintain that weight loss.

This belief may even have nothing to do with your weight at all! It could be a story from childhood where you failed to follow through on something, or an adult telling them that they can’t do something.

But rather than going through every single thing they ever heard or believed, ERT can be used to narrow down the emotion or the timeframe. Once I know what is holding you back, I can process it and help you to release this pattern.

Reprogramming your nervous system safety set point so that you can lose weight and maintain that weight loss, is easily done with ERT.
